Not hard to stick with you Todd, best writer on HB imo. and I and i'm sure every other devils fan appreciate how hard you worked to get some reading in for us during this horrible lockout. Keep it up! |

Todd Cordell: Adam Henrique To Miss First Couple Weeks + Devils Have Cap Flexibility - Todd.Cordell
if im not mistaken the buyouts can only happen at the END of this season and next? so while we do have cap room to work with, its highly unlikely that we would really use it (other than bringing in sykora and maybe someone else) and since the cap is 70.2mill this season and no one is over it there prob wont be any big trades (shhhh luongo to toronto for a 7th rounder doesnt count) and its not like we really have any assets to get a top player
it will be interesting in the offseason to see what happens, there are already some big name UFA's (pending) out there, including our own zajac, + those who may be brought out
i fear we may start slow and miss the playoffs, but IF that happens then we have a shot at the #1 pick and this draft class is deep with talent |

I have the same fear about a slow start, but I also never expected last year to happen...i don't think anyone did. I don't think we need a huge signing to be competitive, I think we need something like last year with a couple smaller signings like poni and zidlicky, but damn if semin wouldn't have been nice for at least this year |

well with henrique out, possibly josefson too, and also losing parise and poni without filling their spots is going to be pretty difficult
hopefully butler can join our top 6 on the roll he is on
kovy-zajac-zubrus
sykora-elias-butler
is what i think we would start off with as the top 6 |

Kinda happy about a season, kinda apathetic about one too. I guess I'm mostly excited to see how JJ turns out, Larsson developed, and if Butler/Pesonen/Tedenby can actually play. |

The Devils are going to be interesting to watch after their run last year and the loss of Parise. Kind of a hard team to predict. |

Also, I hate teams being able to get 2 free buyouts to get under the now reduced cap. I think it's a joke that teams that gave out terrible contracts get to get themselves out of cap hell for no penalty. This is actually bad for the small market teams that the NHL owners were "representing". If you give out poopty contracts you should get (frank)ed for it. So since we won't be buying somebody out most likely we're basically getting penalized for other teams being able to. If we don't buy anybody out we should get our first round draft pick back seeing that since teams can give poopty contracts and not feel any penalties we should get out penalties removed for our "bad contract". |

What should help the small market teams is that they can offer an extra year to their own players, should help keep their stars plus the rich teams can't just front load contracts as much now. |

So essentially the only player we have down is Henrique? Hopefully he recovers quickly, we're going to need him for sure. I'm curious if Lou will just sit back this go-around with the cap drop coming, or sign a few one year deals for proven vets. |

Boucher has a 8 or 9 game multi-point streak. Not sure which one.
I really think Lou resigns Sykora or signs a "filler" like Dominic Moore. Right now, we have Tedenby, Butler, or a fourth liner in the top nine. We could realistically sign a guy like Moore to give us one more reliable option in the top nine and it could strengthen our bottom-six when guys are healthy. For example:
Kovalchuk-Zajac-Zubrus
Elias-Josefson-Butler
Tedenby-Moore-Clarkson
In my opinion, it's a lot better than seeing Bernier, Carter, or Gionta in the top nine, although I think Bernier could handle the duties. But without signing another forward, it leaves us in bad shape if Butler, Tedenby, or even Josefson aren't playing well. Sykora could also fill that role too. |

Yeah, he got hurt, but he finished the game, so I take it that if he is injured it's not any serious. They definitely would've held him out especially with the acknowledgment that the NHL season might be around the corner. |

I really like Dominic Moore. I think the guy has decent offensive capability but plays more on the defensive side of the puck. Decent faceoff man (which we are terrible at). I think he'd fit right in. |
